Short questions to come back to

Seneca asked himself three questions every night before he slept. He did it for decades.

These are built to be answered again and again. Every answer is dated, so after a few months you can see yourself moving.

01

What did you do well today?

Before the list of what went wrong. Always before.
02

What did you do badly today, and what would you do differently?

Seneca asked himself this every night. No punishment. Just the note.
03

What did you leave undone today that matters?

The third of Seneca's questions. The undone things follow you to bed unless you name them.
04

What was the best ten minutes of today?

There is always one. Finding it trains you to notice the next.
05

Who did you make feel a bit better today?

It counts even if it was small.
06

What is one thing you are looking forward to?

Looking forward is a skill. Practise on something small.
07

What took energy this week, and what gave it back?

Two columns. Over a month, they tell you what your life is made of.
08

What did you learn this week that you did not know on Monday?

A week with one new thing is a good week.
09

What do you want to set down before next week starts?

Sunday nights are for putting things down.
10

What is one thing to protect next week, no matter what?

Pick one. The rest can bend.
11

What are you grateful for that you would have missed a year ago?

Gratitude for the new things keeps the practice honest.
12

How are you, actually? Not the version you tell people.

Once a week, answer this properly.
