A reflection · Happiness
I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.'

Say it while it is happening
Kurt Vonnegut's uncle Alex had one complaint about human beings: they almost never notice when they are happy. So he made a practice of it. On a summer afternoon, under an apple tree, lemonade in hand, he would stop mid-conversation and say it out loud. If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.
That is the whole practice. No journal, no app, no gratitude list before bed. Just say it while it is happening. The shade. The friend. The drink.
Most happiness is not lost to bad luck. It is lost to not looking up.
